Justen Harris was born in Williamston, North Carolina in 1978. At a young age, she moved with her family to Raleigh where she lived until she graduated high school. In 1998 she joined the United States Air Force, leaving Raleigh and her family to follow her own path. The first four years Justen served as an Aerospace Ground Support Mechanic and then cross-trained into Information Management to support the computer resources that were used within the squadrons. In 2007, after many deployments all over the world and developing medical issues that hindered her work, Justen was medically retired as an E-5. After several years of fighting to figure out what she was going to do for the rest of her life, she decided to go back to school to follow a secret passion: Metalworking. She had been making chain mail jewelry in her home for several years and had grown to enjoy the meditative rhythm it took to make a piece from beginning to end. Justen felt she needed more education and training if she wanted to take her quiet hobby and push it into something she could really be passionate about. In January of 2014 she started school at Appalachian State University and dove right into the art department. She uses her experience in the military to guide her and is devoted to learning everything that she can to further her skills. Justen graduated in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art.
